Schalk Willem 'Hond' van der Merwe is a South African rugby union player, currently playing with the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup and the Lions in Super Rugby, having previously played for the Free State Cheetahs.[1] His usual position is prop.

He joined the Golden Lions prior to the 2014 season.[2] He was included in the Lions squad for the 2014 Super Rugby season[3] and made his debut in a 21–20 victory over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.[4][5]
