Saxby's

Saxby's Soft Drinks is an iconic Australian soft drink producer, operating since 1864.

History

At the age of 27, George Saxby establishes the aerated drinks factory then known as 'George Saxby Manning River' in Chatham making traditional English drinks, including his now famous Stone Ginger Beer. Saxby's Stone Ginger Beer was packaged in ceramic bottles, filled and corked by hand. Delivery took place by wheelbarrows or small floats down the Manning River to the Taree Wharf. in 1868, George is elected as the third mayor of Taree, NSW and serves two terms in succession. In 1899, George's two sons Edwin and Dolph join the company. In 1913, through a partnership, the company became 'Saxby and Coleman'. Mr Coleman exited the business about 6 months later. In 1930, Roy Saxby became the third generation to run the company. Saxbys is Australia’s oldest family operated soft drink manufacturer.[1]

Ian Turner has been Managing Director since 1995, succeeding his father Jock who had the role for the previous 25 years. There are several fifth generation members of the family still active in the business.[2]
