Gentsoglou was first used as a Center Back by coach Dusan Bajevic, but he was not suitable for that position. After signing with famous Greek agent John Kainourgios,on his first appearance as a defensive midfielder, in the middle of the 2009–2010 season, Gentsoglou did greatly, and he has been featured in almost every AEK Athens game since then. Gentsoglou scored his first goal for AEK against Atromitos in a 3–2 home win. The following week Gentsoglou scored the equalising goal against Kavala. After the arrival of new coach Nikos Kostenoglou, Gentsoglou has featured in most of AEK's matches in the 2011/12 season.

Ergotelis

On 30 August 2014, Gentzoglou returned to Greece to continue his career in Greek Super League playing for Ergotelis.[4] Gentsoglou will be in Ergotelis F.C. for the next 2,5 years.[5] Six months after his transfer to Greece, Savvas Gentsoglou could return to play in Italy.
