Savitri Devi Jindal is a Non-Executive Chairperson, Jindal Steel & Power Limited. She was born to a family in Tinsukia, Assam in 1950. Savitri Jindal grew up living the lifestyle of a traditional Indian woman. In 1970 she married O.P. Jindal, who had founded the Jindal Group, a steel and power conglomerate[3]
Savitri Jindal was a Minister in Haryana Government and member of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly). She lost the seat in recently held elections in Haryana assembly. She became the chairperson after her husband, O. P. Jindal, died in a helicopter crash in 2005.[4] She is a member of the INC political party.
Savitri Jindal is the richest woman in Asia, worth over $14.4 billion she also is the world's 56th richest person. The steel baroness, however, most enjoys talking about her children and continuing her husband's public work. She is the world's 4th richest mother.[5]
As of September 2014, Savitri Jindal and her family was listed by Forbes as the world's 155thth "richest", with a net worth of US$6.4 billion. They ranked as the twelfth richest in India.
Political Life
In 2005, Jindal was elected to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha from Hissar constituency. In 2009, she was re-elected to the constituency and was appointed as the cabinet minister in the Haryana Government on 29 October 2013.
In the previous cabinet, she had served as the Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management, Consolidation, Rehabilitation and Housing and also the Minister of State for Urban Local Bodies and Housing.
The revenue of the company quadrupled after she took charge of the company. With a background and History from the state of Haryana, she served as the member of Haryana Legislative Assembly and held the office of Minister of Power till 2010. O.P Jindal group was started in 1952 by Mr. O.P Jindal, an engineer by profession. It became the conglomerate for Steel, Power, Mining, Oil and gas. Each of these four divisions of her business is run by her four sons, Prithviraj, Sajjan, ratan and Naveen Jindal. Jindal steels are the third largest producer of steel in the India.[6]
