Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Sarupathar had a population of 9827. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Sarupathar has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 84%, and female literacy is 77%. In Sarupathar, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. A majority of Assamese live here but also other communities like Bengali, Nepali, Muslim, Marwari, and Manipuri tribes live here. The majority of Sarupathar's population are Hindu, but other religions like Islamic, Buddhist, Christian are also found here.
Politics
Sarupathar is part of Kaliabor (Lok Sabha constituency) and 94th Legislative Assembly, which Current MLA is Mr. Aklius Tirkey .[2]
Schools and Colleges
Sarupathar Higher secondary school is the biggest and oldest school of sarupathar, that was established in 1956. Another good private English medium schools are Bolosing Memorial School(BMS) and Dayanand Vidya Niketan(DVN).BMS was established in 1993 by Mr. Sibaji Rai, the current principal of the school. DVN was established in 1989, the current principal of the school is Mrs. Protima Mahanta.Both the schools has a record of producing very good results in the matriculation examinations. This two schools are the most disciplined and the maximum number of students are admitted to it every year.
