Arif Shahid book confiscated, publisher receives threats London 24 October 2014 Mirpur police raided office of Rafiq Khawaja this morning, harassed the staff and confiscated all the copies of the book: Why Arif Shahid was Killed? On enquiry, as to why they are doing all this, the police team which came in uniform told the publisher Rafiq Khawaja that the book has been banned, and that he must handover all the copies of book to the police. Rafiq Khawaja asked the police Inspector for the copy of the notification, which the police did not provide and said: A notification will be given later on, and asked Rafiq Khawaja to come to the police station for more questioning. Different agencies have been coming to see Rafiq Khawaja over the past week and asking for copies of the book. Rafiq Khawaja provided them a few copies each. A few days ago they said they wanted more copies to which Rafiq Khawaja said if you want more copies then you should buy them. Different agency people came uninvited to the seminar arranged by All Parties National Alliance in Mirpur to observe a Black Day on 22 October. This seminar was to commemorate the Pakistani sponsored tribal attack on Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, which resulted in death and destruction of thousands of innocent people, raping and kidnapping of Kashmiri women and forced division of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The agency people went there and demanded more copies of the book, and wanted to know what was going on there. Rafiq Khawaja contacted me yesterday and gave me details of this harassment and intimidation. This morning, he phoned again and gave me details of the police action. Because I, Dr Shabir Choudhry, am the author of the book, police also asked about me; and demanded to know where the rest of the books were. All freedom loving people and those who believe in right of expression should speak against this action of the authorities. This shows what kind of Azadi we people of Jammu and Kashmir under the Pakistani occupation enjoy.
