Sara Blicavs is an Australian basketball player who has competed for Australian Institute of Sport in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL).

Personal

Blicavs is from Victoria, Australia.[1][2] She is of Latvian descent.[3] Her parents, Andris Blicavs and Karen Blicavs, both played for Australian national basketball teams,[4] and her brother Mark plays for the Geelong Football Club. Her parents' careers in basketball both ended because of knee injuries.[1][5] She was one of three Australian female athletes based at the Australian Institute of Sport to test a sport bra designed by Berlei.[6] She is 188 centimetres (74 in) tall.[1]

WNBL

Blicavs played for the Australian Institute of Sport during the 2011/2012 WNBL season.[1] In a 24 September 2011 pre-season game loss the Canberra Capitals, she was the team's leading scorer with 23 points.[9] In an 18 November 2011 game against the Canberra Capitals, the Capitals and national team coach Carrie Graf identified her as one of the "AIS players the Capitals must stop to secure back-to-back victories for the first time this year."[5] In a November 2011 game against the Townsville Fire, she scored 27 points in a victory for the Australian Institute of Sport.[1][10] In a November 2011 victory of the Sydney Uni Flames, she scored 27 points.[11] In the first two months of the season, she averaged ten points, two assists and four rebounds a game.[5] In a January 2012 game against the Dandenong Rangers, she scored ten points in game her team lost. She was the only player for the AIS to score double digits in the match.[12][13] In a January 2012 victory against the West Coast Waves played in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, she scored 30 points and ten rebounds.[14] In an 8 February 2012 game against the Canberra Capitals, she was the team's second leading scorer with twelve points.[15] In February 2012, before the final game of the season, West Coast Waves coach David Herbert described her as a gifted player [16]
