History

Foundation and early years

The Club Santos Laguna was officially founded in 1983 by the Mexican Social Security Institute of Durango State under the name of Santos IMSS. Since the late 1970s, the IMSS organized a national football tournament with teams representing various parts of the country. At these competitions attended for five consecutive years the natives of Gomez Palacio, a team that won several championships and always left a good impression, this group of players who mostly played in the team " Asturias" Gomez Palatine League were based IMSS to represent their city .

Jose Diaz Couder, as head of social services in the IMSS Gomez Palacio, was invited to participate in those tournaments and without his having his own team. He appealed to the players known to shape a team, based on the Asturias. Regularly results were good, which favored the insistence of Diaz Couder to senior management of the Institute to send a franchise second division to La Laguna.

In 1982, the Tuberos de Veracruz, which were part of the Second Division "B " Mexican soccer disappeared, which, IMSS got a new franchise that added to the existing ones, among which are those of Atlante and the Oaxtepec. That franchise was offered last minute Gomez Palacio, but with time running out and little infrastructure declined to accept it and went to Santa Cruz, Tlaxcala, where Social Security has nailed his resort of La Trinidad. There, with a good stadium, arose the first Santos Laguna, a name taken by the town, Santa Cruz, its people, therefore, were Santos . No very good results, the team just spent a year in Tlaxcala and virtually at the end of 1983 were resolved at the end of the season; the team would migrate to the Shire.

Jose Diaz Couder, Sports Coordinator of the IMSS in Gómez Palacio, received the news of Professor Lorenzo García González, Director of Soccer Schools of Social Security and of Mr. Juan Antonio Carranza, Deputy Director of Corporate Services of the IMSS, so spread Diaz Couder the news and bound the Saints to the Laguna Region.

A lack of facilities in Gomez Palacio, began efforts to get Moctezuma Stadium in Torreon, owned by John Abusaid. Thanks to an agreement the Saints might have since then his home in the now defunct first Estadio Corona.

The team was taking shape and Juan Manuel Ramírez Meza " Jainel " was the one who started with the workouts, however they do not have " license " to lead in professional football, had to resort to Don Grimaldo Gonzalez, but by not having his naturalization does not could direct a stranger in the lower divisions and that was when Fernando Zamora came to be the coach of the team, who joined just days before the start of torneo.

The only reinforcement that came with experience as a professional was the harrier Carlos Gonzalez, who had debuted years ago with the Green Wave, old equipment comarcano. The rest of the players were those who represented the IMSS Gómez Palacio for years. With the aim of spreading the sport and health, the Santos team began recruiting players from the region and enrolled in professional football to found a new circuit between the second and third divisions Mexican Football Federation called "Second B “.

On Sunday September 4, 1983, los guerreros played their first game with the name Santos Laguna, winning 2–0 at the Bachelors in the Second Division "B " with annotations Leobardo Avalos and Jose Luis Rodriguez -.19 A year later, July 8 and being champions of the Second Division "B ", the Warriors defeated in the final of the Champion of Champions at the Autonomous University of Querétaro in the two games by a score 1–0. Both teams reached the Second Division "A " 20 21.

Segunda Division "A"

Santos Laguna changed owners, when the IMSS decided to get rid of all professional clubs, so entrepreneur harrier Salvador Necochea Sagi bought the club . The Warriors in their first year in the Second Division "A" fought to save himself in the league by not decrease, which succeeded thanks to 3 wins, 2 draws and only one defeat, the players featured were William " The Clash " Galindo, Carlos González, Julio Cesar Armendáriz, Tomas Moreno and Fernando de la Rosa.

In 1985, los guerreros earned the nickname after the campaign began with bad results, changed technical and made it to the 10th position in the table, not only that the fans began to grow in number and also achieved have own stadium when the owners bought the first Estadio Corona.

In 1986, there were several changes in the team, the first thing the previous shield was replaced by the current coat the idea was the then owner Salvador Necochea, the latter was first played in the uniform settlement in green and white stripes and third at last a league qualified for promotion when 4 dates to finish the regular season defeats Santos Laguna Tepic by a score of 1–0 and gets the lead in the Second Division "A".

In 1987, Los Guerreros returned to be leaders and scored again to 4 days to finish the regular season, unfortunately despite only having lost a home game in the tournament Santos Laguna went back to the shore in their struggle to ascend to the First Division.

Of the 18 founder members of the new professional circuit Second Division "B", only two made it to the first division, the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas and Santos Laguna . Although the Roadrunners as monarchs of the Second, amounted in 1987–88, after eight seasons of staggering, down to the new branch promotion dubbed Primera A (now Ascent MX), where still struggling to return.

Instead, the Warriors arrived at the circuit up buying the franchise Angeles de Puebla and justified his rise over time because they did not win on the field becoming 15 years in a successful club it is today.

Promotion to Primera Division

The Club Santos Laguna achieve its first ascent in 1988 by purchasing the missing Puebla Angels finally come Santos being another name, the warriors with reinforcements as Cristian Saavedra, Graniolatti Wilson, Martin Zuniga and Miguel Herrera gave a good image in the Cup tournament with 3 wins, 4 draws and one defeat. Santos Laguna in this tournament began with a tie at 1 as against Morelia, and scoring the first goal in the first division Lucas Ochoa. The Warriors of the hand of Carlos Ortiz would be saved from relegation thanks to two goals from Miguel Herrera, Santos Laguna defeated Atletico 3–1 on the day Potosino.

In 1991, the company Grupo Modelo became majority owner of the club. That same year would mean one of the saddest for Santos Laguna when Roberto Matosas saves Warriors in the final game thanks to a 0–0 draw against Morelia suspect in there was not a single shot on goal to preserve a result that both teams needed to achieve their goals: league for Michoacan, salvation for the Harriers. On a more positive note, the young Ramon Ramirez would make his debut in the First Division scoring a goal against Club Deportivo Guadalajara. In late 1992, the club suffered a hard blow with the death of its president, Armando Navarro Gascón, who died along with his wife in a car accident.

In 1993 begins the ascent sports club with the arrival of President Alberto Canedo and Chilean coach Pedro García, who after finishing the 1991–92 season told local press Newspaper News Sun Lagoon that – only continue in the team if gave players to be within the top ten of Mexico – and it did. It made a strong investment between Ruben Martinez stressed reinforcements, Antonio "El Turco" Apud, Daniel Guzmán, Olaf Heredia, Diego Silva, Héctor Adomaitis and Richard Zambrano who joined players coming from Second Division such as José Guadalupe Rubio and Pedro Muñoz. The 1993–94 season was achieved for the first time qualifying for the playoffs in the First Division and reached the final in their tenth anniversary of foundation, which lost in overtime against Club Deportivo Estudiantes Tecos who were coached by Victor Manuel Vucetich.[4]

In 1994, following the departure of one of there key players Ramón Ramírez to Guadalajara, left the club without one of their best players. In this season Santos achieved qualification for the playoffs for the second time. In the following season los guerreros participated in the 1995 CONCACAF Champions Cup where they were eliminated in the first round against Deportivo FAS of El Salvador, in this season the Argentine Mauro Camoranesi came in to reinforce the team. Camoranesi played a total of 13 games with Santos and only scored one goal before leaving back to Uruguay. Mauro Camoronesi would later go on to play for Juventus where he would become a naturalized citizen in Italy and would later form part of the Italian national team in the 2006 World Cup becoming champions, Mauro became the only ex-santista to have achieved this distinction.[5] Another key players that season and the following are Gabriel Caballero, Francisco Gabriel de Anda and Miguel España.

The Invierno 1996 tournament is the first Mexican soccer short tournament, also the best tournament played for Santos Laguna in this tournament, reinforcements arrived from the likes of Jared Borgetti and Chilean Cristian Montecinos. He reached the third league during the regular season when they lost only 3 games in the league. They eliminated in the quarter-finals 4–2 5–2 Atlas and Toros Neza in the semi-finals, in the final against Necaxa, Santos lost the fourth match of the season in the first leg at the Azteca 1–0 with Benjamin Galindo own goal for los guerreros the second leg was won 4–2 win with goals from Jared Borgetti (the last being a controversial offside goal) and Santos Laguna got their first title of the First División.

In the Verano 1997 Tournament, Santos Laguna with very irregular operation barely qualified for the play-offs where they were eliminated by Guadalajara with a score of 5–0 in the Estadio Jalisco, the only thing salvageable was that Gabriel Caballero got his top goal scorer championship with 12 goals tying Lorenzo Sáez who was a Pachuca player. The Invierno 1997 tournament was one of the worst tournaments of the institution, when only won 3 games out of 17 played, Santos Laguna was last in the standings tied with Pumas UNAM and UAG Tecos.

In Winter 1997 tournament Santos got to go to their second CONCACAF tournament disputing a preliminary match against Los Angeles Galaxy lost 4–1. The following year he participated in the tournament Pre 1998 Pre Libertadores reaching one of the two finals, which was played on September 9 in Los Angeles, California. In it, Santos and Monterrey tumbling staged a memorable party with two last-minute goals Alvin Sergio Pérez, that the Monterrey was boosted with the 4–3 victory.

In Summer 1998 Tournament, the Warriors got the fourth classification for the play-offs in a tournament very irregular, Necaxa eliminated in the quarter-finals. At the next tournament, Santos Laguna with many changes that could not adapt, the rating is not achieved with only 4 wins and 5 draws.

In the Summer Tournament 1999, we worked hard to put together a good team that was undefeated until Week 14, despite being fifth in the overall standings the Warriors had to face the Tecos UAG in the play-off win on aggregate 7–5, then removing to America in the quarter-finals by a score of 3–2, but eventually undergoes elimination to the overall leader Toluca. In the next tournament poor planning caused a terrible tactical operation and not managed to qualify for the play-offs.

2000 years

In the Summer 2000 Tournament, Santos Laguna was strengthened greatly with the arrival of the Chilean left end Paraguayan Rodrigo Ruiz and Luis Romero, during the regular season the Warriors only lost two games and would be second in the overall standings behind Toluca. So the league were classified for the fifth time in the quarter-finals last entry central defender Heriberto Morales Monarcas Morelia team injured when Chilean Rodrigo Ruiz and left him unfit the rest of the league, despite this happens Santos Laguna Monarcas Morelia on tying, then defeat 2–1 to Pumas UNAM in the semi-finals and in the final against Toluca historic rout was defeated by 7–1 on aggregate and thus won second runner-up club history . In the Winter 2000 tournament, the Warriors had a good tournament, despite a bad start was achieved through the play-offs in sixth place overall and also get Jared Borgetti scoring his first championship scoring 17 points and setting a scoring record short matches. Santos Laguna Necaxa managed to go on a 4–3 overall Morelia semi-finals and won by 3–2. In the Summer Tournament 2001, Santos Laguna had an irregular tournament started, but eventually rose to be champion, first obtained the merit of being the highest scoring team with 35 goals, second Borgetti Jared gets his second scoring championship with 13 points and third was ranked third consecutive tournament accumulating the play-offs and the seventh in the First Division. The Warriors ranked second overall in the league quarter-finals where thrashed Tecos by 7–2 in the aggregate, in the semi-finals in one of the most exciting qualifying tournament Santos Laguna short overall tied for 6 points with Puebla, but his best position at the table got to the final against Pachuca in the final leg was to Pachuca by 2–1, but the Warriors won back 3–1 through Jared Borgetti and Mariano Trujillo while championship goal reinforcement would Róbson Brazilian Luiz who to score to beat Pachuca goalkeeper Miguel Calero thus winning their second league championship. In the Winter 2001 tournament, Santos Laguna looking endorsing their title, but just failed to qualify for the play-offs after a season with eight losses irregular, ranked eighth overall and in the quarter-finals against Tigers are tied on aggregate to a goal, but position in the table removes the tournament. The next tournament on Summer 2002, the Warriors did a good tournament being fourth in the overall standings, but had to play against the Tigers reclassification where Santos Laguna went tied on aggregate, and in the eighth league club in the First Division in quarters end also tied on aggregate to the Atlas and qualified to the semi-finals where Necaxa eliminate the Warriors by 1–0 at the Estadio Corona. Santos Laguna qualified for the CONCACAF Champions Cup for the second time in the 2002 edition Warriors breezed over Tauro FC of Panama by aggregate score of 5–3, while in the next round at Santos Laguna was not enough to U.S. champion Kansas City Wizards and lost 3–2 overall. Inexplicably the end of the Summer Tournament 2002 best coach who has had the Santos Laguna Fernando Quirarte stepped down with his coaching staff and entered directing Sergio Bueno who was in command of the Torneo Apertura 2002, Good was sacked after eight days without results and found Luis Fernando Tena who ranked eighth overall and Santos Laguna in the league eliminated the defending champion and leader in Global America 5–4 in the Azteca Stadium, in the semi-finals against the Warriors were eliminated Toluca on aggregate 7–4. The Warriors qualified for the continental competition Merconorte Cup in the group stage victories Santos Laguna won five of which were on the Kansas City Wizards twice, against Barcelona of Guayaquil also in two games and finally against Sporting Cristal, The only loss in this phase was against Sporting Cristal of visitors by a score of 2–1. In the semi-finals Emelec thrashed Warriors by 4–1 in the Estadio Corona, but in return the Warriors fell by the same score forcing the tiebreaker penalty kicks, where the Saints defeated Emelec 4–1 and removed from Merconorte Cup. In the Clausura 2003, there were strange things to the Warriors among them, many injuries, irregularities and non classification amazing the play-offs despite having managed 31 points in the regular stage.

The 2003 Apertura Tournament was a tournament that was worth a lot to the institution because here were met lagunera 20 years of existence of the club since its founding in 1983 and therefore large capacity reinforcements arrived as the case of Vicente Matias Vuoso and Sixto Peralta both Argentines arrived European club football from the likes of Manchester City and Inter Milan. In this tournament gave one of the most exciting games Estadio Corona has had the fortune of hosting and this was the match between Santos Laguna and Monterrey, the game ended with 10 goals product of a tie plus own goal five goals including and offside goal in the last minute of Vicente Matias Vuoso, arbitration was terrible for both sides, no physical capacity to lead First Division matches Sergio Silva spotted the party interposing a shot of Jose Antonio Noriega in which the rebound fell in a counterattack goal for Monterrey, and contenting itself a goal clear misplaced Vicente Matias Vuoso. The Warriors achieved qualification for the play-offs finishing fourth place overall where face Atlante, Club Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl would take home a good result would be irreversible for Santos Laguna being eliminated by aggregate score of 5–3 in the quarter- end, Luis Fernando Tena not renewed and his position was replaced by Eduardo De la Torre. The beginning of 2004 for the Warriors could not be better, the top eight teams competed Mexican Soccer two places to go to South America's oldest tournament Copa Libertadores, but first they had to win a tournament Interleague created by the Mexican Federation of Football on U.S. soil, Club Santos Laguna of group opponents had to Guadalajara and Toluca to Morelia, the Warriors defeated the Guadalajara and Toluca, Morelia but lost to the group leaders were scoring above the Toluca and his next opponent Atlas was in the end, this game was very stuck and ended tied at 2 goals in regulation so he had to go to the tiebreaker through penalty kicks, where the Club Santos Laguna qualified for the Copa Libertadores 2004 beating the Atlas Guadalajara by 4–3.

The Clausura 2004 tournament was a disastrous tournament for the Warriors who between injury, irregularity and tiredness for the dispute of the Copa Libertadores had a problem over all these and was at the organizational level, the institution was put up for sale by their owners Grupo Modelo November 2003 by businessman Carlos Ahumada Kurtz who months later revealed through counsel Diego Fernandez de Cevallos the Video Scandals on national television, the Mexican justice decided to arrest the club owner Carlos Ahumada Kurtz generic fraud and tax evasion, the team Club Santos Laguna was unprotected financially and yet played for two tournaments at the end the Warriors finished with 21 points in 14th place in the overall standings. In the end, the club recovered Grupo Modelo. In the Copa Libertadores Santos Laguna unpaid wages ended the group stage unbeaten rescuing three draws at the University of Concepción both home visiting and to Brazil's Cruzeiro in Belo Horizonte, three victories against Caracas FC at home visiting and against Cruzeiro at Estadio Corona with a score of 1–0. In the second round the Warriors faced River Plate, the first leg at the Estadio Corona Santos Laguna lost youth undefeated Cristian Tula goal, but in the back in the Monumental de Núñez Warriors football gave the best performance in all its history and defeated the River Plate with goals from Hector Altamirano and Vicente Matias Vuoso, but unfortunately for the Santos Laguna 15 minutes left the former Juventus and Chilean international Marcelo Salas scored for the home and all you would have to define penalty kicks, the Paraguayan referee Carlos Torres decided to repeat the third penalty wrongly had already been saved by Santos Laguna goalkeeper Cristian Lucchetti, the kick is executed for the second time by Daniel Montenegro and after several more River Plate criminal managed to eliminate the Warriors Libertadores Cup.

In the Apertura 2004, the club was abandoned by the Ministry of Finance who withdrew all financial support and decided to instruct the institution to its former owner Grupo Modelo, the company would only administrator of the institution may not invest more their money in the franchise until the owner Carlos Ahumada Kurtz solve their legal problems. So the solution of the leaders of the club at the time Alberto Canedo, Guillermo Cantu and Gustavo De Villa was transferred to the players who were paid a lot and restructure Basic Forces elements campus of the First Division, players were killed Jared Borgetti Sixto Peralta, Cristian Lucchetti, Johan Rodríguez, José Antonio Noriega, Joaquín Reyes and Hector Lopez. So he could not be much demand on campus and the coaching staff, the club Betis was a failure and did not qualify for the play-offs. In the 2005 Clausura, the Warriors full of youth and experience elements would get back to a league, and get your Vicente Matias Vuoso scoring championship with 15 points and Rodrigo Ruiz finally impose the record for scoring passes of all time the Mexican Soccer with 12 assists. The play Santos Laguna in the quarter-finals against America the aggregate score tied at 3 goals end, but the best position in the standings gave the pass to America. In the Apertura 2005 tournament, the Warriors let out their last symbols of that campus deliverer Denis Caniza, Hector Altamirano, and Gabriel Palmero. For Santos Laguna was a tournament full of injuries that caused widespread game down at the start of the tournament, although it was recomposed with the passage of time, the leaders decided to remove Eduardo De la Torre jumper with three days and still had possibilities qualify for the play-offs, Jorge Vantolrá finally took over temporarily and could be rescued only Matias Vuoso got the scoring bicampeonato tying scoring 11 points Kléber Boas, Walter Gaitan and Sebastian Abreu.

The Clausura 2006 tournament was one of the worst tournaments of the Warriors including the Second Division "A" after the end of the encounter between Jaguares and Santos Laguna, the interim Jorge Vantolrá resigned and opened the way for the arrival of Benjamin Galindo the first ex-player of Santos Laguna in direct, directed only 7 games which drew 4 and lost 3. Wilson was sacked and arrived Graniolatti another former player of Santos Laguna won its fifth game to run on the day 12, the end of the tournament the Warriors finished with 17 points, just above the Monterrey on goal difference. For the 2007 Clausura, Santos transferred to Tecos UAG one of the best players I have had the Mexican football club, Rodrigo Ruiz, this fact was very challenged to Daniel Guzman and directors. With the departure of Rodrigo Ruiz, Santos had to strengthen because I was struggling with the decline not Querétaro, reaching the players like goalkeeper institution at that time of the Mexican Oswaldo Sanchez, Daniel Ludueña, Juan Pablo Rodriguez, Ivan Estrada among others, and the return of Vicente Matias Vuoso to Santos, after passing unnoticed in America. Santos escaped down on the last day where they defeated Cruz Azul 2–0, in addition to the Atlas won by the same score to Querétaro. And with this latest victory not only saved, also got to go to the play-offs playing against the St. Louis team. At the end of the league would be outside the 2-2 draw with Pachuca globally.

The Apertura 2007 was recorded as the best season in short matches for the team, with the arrival of Ecuadorian Christian Benitez Santos achieved a dream season by being a leader with only one loss, and thus reap 38 points. Get the play-offs for the title, eliminating Monarcas Morelia with a score of 5–2 in the semi-finals before facing the Pumas UNAM, the team is visited no more and no less than Pele, the greatest player and emblematic Brazil and the world, to wish luck to the team, but unfortunately the box succumbs to the capital harrier by 5–4 on aggregate, thus staying one step closer to their fifth final in their history. For the Clausura 2008, remained the same template to which was added only the national team Fernando Arce from Monarcas Morelia and the negotiation was a trade with TV Azteca to follow the team's games being broadcast by the television network several years. This tournament was the highest scoring team with 36 goals in the regular season, and getting the subliderato general. With a slow start to the league, spent only one goal over Necaxa in quarter-finals, and in a historic game back in the Estadio Corona and drawing at the last minute before the Monterey with a headed goal from Fernando Arce Santos Laguna reach his fifth final in the First Division, Cruz Azul face returning to this instance after eight years. On Sunday June 1, 2008 Santos Laguna was crowned champion for the third time in the Torneo Clausura 2008 beating Cruz Azul, the first leg had been 2–1 in favor of the Harriers in the Estadio Azul, and for the second leg which took place at the Estadio Corona, Santos and the cement were 1–1 but the aggregate score showed 3–2 for Santos. Santos Laguna began visiting Apertura 2008 at Azteca Stadium against America adopted an old and very respectful Spanish football tradition, do the "corridor" with symbol recognition champion in his first match after being crowned. Santos faced reinforced the luxury league, to the injury of Christian Benitez, Cuauhtemoc Blanco, who came to the Warriors to face the San Luis, two wins for Santos gave the pass to the semi-finals to be played against Deportivo Toluca, a pair of high wear shocks, tie and reds win that qualified for the final a week later crowned champions. The Clausura 2009 was a disastrous tournament for the Warriors in the first conference which led to the dismissal of coach Daniel Guzman and the arrival of Sergio Bueno. With Well the Warriors managed to lift the table, despite that, due to the defeat suffered in Cancun against Atlante, were just a point to qualify for the play-offs. But rather than let them be champions was to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League in which they were first in the group. In the quarter-finals where they faced the Montreal Impact in Montreal's Olympic Stadium with an impressive 55,571 spectators input the Impact surprised and won 2–0. The Estadio Corona was his last game exciting in its history, when Santos managed to get ahead 1–0 after Montreal scores in a large lagoon behind neglect of Canadians are ahead in the score 1–2, but the great miracle came in the second half when two goals from Vicente Matias Vuoso and two in injury time of Charles Darwin Quintero managed to win on aggregate 5–4. The Saints made it through to the next stage where the Atlante vs Corona but the Warriors won 2-1 at the Estadio Andrés Quintana Roo pounced Atlante and at the last minute the criminal via Atlante defeated the Warriors 3-1 that left out of the tournament. The Apertura 2009 was an important tournament for the institution as it would open the grand Nuevo Estadio Corona thanks to a good tournament smoothly agreed to the play-offs but Monarcas Morelia and Monarchs defeat in the group stage 4–2 on aggregate, which led to the dismissal of Good and hiring Ruben Omar Romano.

2010 years

In 2010 the Warriors Bicentenario lived a similar story to the previous tournament, only this time the tournament culminated in a tailspin, yet in the league faced Pumas, Santos won 2–0 in Torreon, and CU lost although the score 1–0 2–1 favored harrier box. In the semi-finals again faced Monarcas Morelia and this time the story would be different, in Morelia Santos pulled out a thrilling 3–3, which forced Monarchs beat the Warriors in Torreon, Morelia beat Santos 7–1 with an outstanding Oribe Peralta performance scoring a treble, Santos agreed to the Grand Final against Toluca in the first leg is tied for Corona 2–2 at the Estadio Nemesio Díez after playing 120 minutes the game ended with a score 0–0 having to force to define the match penalties. Santos came close to the title but a series of errors at the end denied the championship falling 4–3 to Toluca in criminal proceedings. In the 2010 Apertura Christian Benitez returned after passing by English side Birmingham City. With high level, Benitez contributed greatly, making the warriors had a surprising start, linking four wins and placed on the top of the table. Finally, "Chucho" became the scorer of the tournament with 14 goals. In Santos faced in Quarter-finals Play-offs Jaguares of Chiapas, in Chiapas the match was tied 1–1, in the Crown after 90 minutes Juan Pablo Rodriguez control the ball between the networks to give a pass to Santos. Club America faced the semi-finals, where in the Azteca Santos took the victory 1–2, in Torreon were tied 3–3. In the end, the Saints would face Monterrey with a good show in the first leg ended 3–2 for the team of the Shire, and in turn the result was different with out totally surprised Saints defensive and clueless finishing with a convincing 3–0 in favor of Monterrey thus losing his second consecutive final. In the Clausura 2011 following a constant irregularity team results and Ruben Omar Romano conflicts with the fans the same was dismissed on February 20, 2011, and only two days after Diego Cocca was presented as his deputy debuting the same day against being defeated Cruz Azul 2–0. Cocca became the worst rookie head coach in team history after losing their first six games with the team from the league and CONCACAF Champions League, to get his first victory at the helm of the Saints until Week 12 against Cruz Azul by score 3–0, with poor results the team ended the tournament without being able to qualify for the play-offs. Diego Cocca started the Apertura 2011 with the support of the board and players, but after poor performance was dismissed on September 3, 2011 leaving Eduardo Rergis as interim coach, the September 12 Benjamin Galindo was appointed as new coach Adomaitis team and Hector and Hector Lopez as his assistants. It had a spectacular start in the new era of Galindo with five straight wins and then enter the league in fourth place overall where Jaguars defeated in the quarter-finals and semi-finals Morelia to access the grand final against the Tigres UANL. Saints at their stadium lost by a score of 1–0 against the college, the Chato Rodriguez was ejected in the "Volcán" with a wet pitch, Santos is left with 2 players less, thanks to the expulsion of goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez, and defense over Panamanian Felipe Baloy, a match that will be remembered for arbitration controversial referee Marco Antonio Rodriguez "Chiquimarco" and beats Tigres 3–1 at home to the Saints and is crowned Open Champion 2011, Santos on the other hand had to retest the taste of defeat and helplessness of not being able to lift the title again. In the 2011–12 CONCACAF Champions League, Santos defeated in the quarter-finals by Seattle Sounders of the United States and the semi-finals at Toronto FC of Canada, in the final face to Rayados of Monterrey where Santos lost the first leg 2–0; in Torreon Santos managed to win 2–1 on aggregate but beat Monterrey 3–2, thus his fourth runner-up. On the other hand, in the 2012 Clausura, Santos Laguna finished in first place for the second time in its history. Already facing the Harriers league Jaguares de Chiapas in the quarter-finals Santos won 6–4 on aggregate. In the semi-finals faced UANL Tigres in the first leg at the Estadio Universitario the game ended in a 1–1 draw. On lap in the TSM Tigers managed to win for most of the match 0–2 but only 2 minutes Oribe Peralta tied the game 2–2 in the 90th minute giving a pass to the final dramatic. In the final they would face back to Monterrey Football Club just weeks after the end of CONCACAF. This time Santos managed to get a good result in the first leg 1–1 draw at Estadio Tecnologico. On lap held in Torreon Santos Laguna beat Monterrey 2–1 scoreline with goals from Daniel Ludueña and Oribe Peralta. Thus giving the fourth title in the history of the warriors. For the Apertura 2012 arrived as reinforcements coming Edgar Gerardo Lugo have a spectacular tournament with Monarcas Morelia and Oswaldo Alanis considered a rising star in the series defensively. During the tournament the team sailed on the irregularity and the end was not able to qualify for the play-offs, thus losing the opportunity to endorse the championship. At the end of the last meeting, Benjamín Galindo sent his two assistants, later was dismissed by the board.

In the Clausura 2013 there were major changes in the institution, after the dismissal of Benjamin Galindo, Pedro was hired Caixinha, Portuguese coach recommended by former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho. Also turned down one of the last players emblematic of the team, Daniel Ludueña, who was transferred along with Christian Suarez Pachuca Soccer Club, in an exchange between policies where Mauro Cejas and Nestor Calderon were the bargaining chips by the Hidalgo team also hired Andres Renteria, considered a promising young Colombian football. In the regular season the team finished sixth in the overall standings, in the quarter-finals faced the Atlas, winning the series 3–1 on aggregate, while in the semi-finals the team was decisively defeated by Cruz Azul losing the first leg 0–3 and the return 2–1. One of the characteristic symbols of Club Santos Laguna is his shield. After its founding in 1983, the first club crest was created, it was white with green stripes and green letters the name of Club Santos IMSS, very similar to the Santos FC, same he held until 1986. In 1991, when Grupo Modelo became the new owner of the team is changed, both the design of the uniform, as the shield, with the new shield similar as we know it today, which currently consists of a white ball with five pentagons truncated on the ball green and placed a crown. For this the shield suffered little change.

In 1986 the idea of then club president Salvador Necochea Sagi second design was created, which consisted of a white ball with five pentagons truncated green, green with a crown above the name of the club and placed in the center. But after the club decided to change the green to golden crown.

Anthem

In 1991 when the club was in danger of relegation to the second division Betis was born the first song "Es hora de ganar" composed by Ricardo Serna and recorded and performed by amateurs harriers. This topic came to fill an emotional void that fans longed lagoon, therefore, that you came to see that was the anthem of the Santos. It was clearly a motivational issue could not become an official anthem, which is why the composer himself proposed to the president of the club in 1992 Armando Navarro Gascón professionally compose and record the true anthem of Santos. Thus was born the hymn "El equipo de todos" recorded by the same group of harriers with the whole idea and conviction that it was the official anthem of the Santos Laguna, but the sudden death of Mr. Armando Navarro did not allow this to happen.

In April 1994, Ricardo Serna composed the anthem of the "Santos Campeon" could not be the same brand as the Estudiantes Tecos won the final in Zapopan, but fortunately years after the club was able to sing with its three championships.

In the year of 1996, it decided to hire the Chilean Martin Ibarreche Wilt Labarca to compose a new song entitled " Verdiblanco el corazon". In 1997 again Ricardo Serna created the "Hymn to the fans" which is a song of gratitude to the Harriers, they are undoubtedly the best interests of the country. In May 2001 the club decides once again put into play another song called "Venceremos". From this time, has produced many themes that allude to the strength of a team that has made Mexican soccer star based on the weaknesses and strengths pain.

Then came other hymns and songs as champion Guerrero, Late stronger, Your destiny is to succeed, We own the ball, Anthem TSM, Duro Santos Duro (a cover of We Will Rock You) and various artists all have sung. Hiromi sang commemorating the 20th anniversary and its 25th anniversary, Yahir of La Academia. In 2012 at the request of the president of the institution Alejandro Irarragorri, recorded the official anthem for the fans and players.

Rivalries

The rivalries in football in Mexico reveal how certain sectors of the population consider their city or region in relation to others. Some studies show football fans the relationship between the membership of a club and regional identity, as identities behind football are the rivalries that tensions arise as manifestations of political, economic and cultural history between regions, cities, neighborhoods or social segments.

In its early years, Santos Laguna maintained a rivalry with the Cobras club in Ciudad Juarez, due to the number of Harriers based in the border city of Chihuahua. The rivalry ended with the disappearance of the Club Cobras in the mid-nineties. In 2008 there was an attempt to revive the confrontation between these two cities clubs with club promotion to the Indios de Ciudad Juárez, another set currently disappeared.

Santos currently holds a rivalry with Monterrey, with whom they played a couple of end of the First Division of Mexico, as well as two finals of the Concacaf Champions League. This antagonism has been framed by continuous violent episodes between both clubs, and generally is considered a high-risk game in the two cities. The rivalry between Santos and Monterrey is considered by many fans as a kind of classic North since the Monterrey Classic Regiomontano dispute with the club Tigres of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.
