Santam is a South African financial services group that also has business interest in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.[2] Santam's head office is located in Cape Town. The company is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and is regarded as South Africa's largest short-term insurer.[3][4][5]

History

The South African National Trust and Assurance Company Limited (Santam) was established in 28 March 1918. One month later the South African Life Assurance Company (Sanlam) was established as a full subsidiary of Santam to focus on life assurance while Santam remained focussed on short-term insurance.[1]

Financial group Sanlam has an effective 60% interest in Santam.

Board of Directors and Executive Management

Santam's board of directors consists of twelve executives who make up the senior management team, with Ian Kirk appointed as Chief Executive,[6] in June 2007. Eleven directors serve on the board, headed by current chairman, Grant Gelink.[7]
