Santa Rosa, El Oro

Farming center about 10 miles south of Machala, Ecuador. Santa Rosa that is the site for a large new airport to serve the southern part of Ecuador. This airport is operational offering flights to mayor cities in Ecuador like Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca, and in the near future Peru and USA.[1]

Aeropuerto Regional del Sur Ecuatoriano

The airport, which will be named the "Aeropuerto Regional del Sur Ecuatoriano," is, as of late 2009, nearing completion of its initial phase. Planning for the new airport began in 2002.[2] The runway will be 2,500 m in length and 45 m wide, with an additional 7.50 m of shoulder on each side, providing a total width of 60 m.[3] The runway is capable of handling B-727s and B-737s. Expenses for the construction of the airport is expected to reach US$44 million. Although no airlines are currently contracted to use the airport, several airlines have expressed interest.[4] A blog entry by a TAME representative suggests that airline will serve the new airport.[5] The terminal building is planned to be 5,000 sq. m. in size.[6]

The city of Santa Rosa now has a brand new and modern airport offering flights to main cities in Ecuador and very soon will provide flights to Peru and USA. The airport is only 5 minutes or less away from the city.

Tourism

People in Santa Rosa are very warm in welcoming tourist. The city has beautiful parks, shopping centers, very good restaurants, hotels, rivers, and festivities. The best of all is that everything is inexpensive.

Food

If you pass by Santa Rosa, stop by to eat a delicious plate called Ceviche which is a soup served at room temperature, this plate can be made of fish, shrimp or conch. You can find this plate anywhere else but in this beatuful city. The price for ceviche ranges from $0.50 to $2.00. "carne azada" which is grilled beef is a delicious plate often cerve with beans and rice and fried green platains. You will find many restaurant around town offering this typical dish. One of the best restaurants to eat this dish is Restaurant "Papi Lucho" on Sucre Street.

Festivities

The festivities in Santa Rosa are celebrated every year in August and last 10 days. Events take place in front of the main Catholic Church where tourists can witness fireworks, forkloric music, typical dances, and local traditional games.
