Santa Fe High School, founded in 1899, is a public high school (grades 9-12) in the Santa Fe Public Schools. It is located about two miles southwest of downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico and is the largest school in Santa Fe, public or private, with an enrollment of 1,542.[2]

Santa Fe High's mascot is the Demon,[3] a fact that occasionally outrages local groups who periodically petition the school board and local authorities to have the Demon mascot and name removed from the school.

Athletics

SFHS has won over 28 State Championships from NMAA sanctioned sports and events.

The school eventually dropped in classification from AAAAA because of decreasing enrollment. During their time in AAAAA (2001-2009), SFHS never won a state championship in any sport.

However, in 2014, the NMAA realigned the state's schools in to six classifications and adjusted district boundaries.[4] SFHS competes in the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA), as a class 6A school in District 1. In addition to Santa Fe High School, the schools in District 1-6A include: Cibola High School, Volcano Vista High School, Rio Rancho High School and V. Sue Cleveland High School.[5]
