Shandhani (Bengali: সন্ধানী) is the first organized volunteer blood donation program in Bangladesh that was born in 5 February 1977 with a view to donate blood among patients but now it has broadened it's scope of postmortem voluntary eye donation and donating money among the poor patients.
History
Some students of Dhaka Medical College were trying to help one of their friends who were fumbling to afford his daily breakfast. After successful solving this problem they realized that they can solve many difficult tasks. As a result of good union Shandhani was born. Shandhani arranged Voluntary Blood Donation Program in DMCH blood bank in 2 November 1978 for the first time. For this reason 2 November is celebrated as "National Volunteer Blood Donation & Postmortem Eye Donation Day" (Bengali: জাতীয় স্বেচ্ছায় রক্তদান ও মরণোত্তর চক্ষুদান দিবস).

This organization has vision to save every life despite economic status.
Mission
Their prime mission is promoting public awareness regarding safe blood transfusion through collecting and storing blood. However, they have also launched promotion of postmortem voluntary eye donation and donating money among the poor patients.
Oath
"In the name of almighty, I do hereby swear that I will leave no stone unturned to fulfill the goals and objectives of Sandhani. I will dedicate my life to the service of Sandhani by shunning personal interest all kinds of political affiliations. So help me God"
Achievement
Shandhani provides blood 40% of whole requirement of country.[1]

- The first voluntary blood donation program of Sandhani was organized on 2 November 1978. The same day has been recognized as the national voluntary blood donation and posthumous eye donation day in 1995.
- Common wealth Youth Service Award ’95
- Sandhani received the C.W.Y.S.A. ’95 as recognition for its voluntary works. Co. W. Sec. has divided all the C.W. countries of the world into six zones and the zones are presented one award each. Form the south Asian Zone, Sandhani received the award, consisting of a medal, one thousand pound and a certificate. Sandhani is the first organization to receive this award in Bangladesh.
- Recognition by the social welfare Centre of Bangladesh in 1995.
- Bangladesh Social welfare Centre granted the recognition for the voluntary works organized by Sandhani.
- Youth Development Dept. granted registration to Sandhani as a voluntary organization in 1995.
