Biography

Sanaullah Zehri was born in a Zehri family of Anjeera Distt village located in midst of Khuzdar, Balochistan, Pakistan, on 4 August 1961, to Zehri tribe.[2] His father, Sardar Doda Khan Zehri, was a tribal leader and an activist of Pakistan Movement who played a crucial role in gathering Balochistan's support for the cause of Pakistan.[2] After educating and matriculating from Karachi Grammar School Karachi, Zehri attended the Karachi University where he studied for political science degree.[3] He graduated with an BA degree in Political science in 1983.[3]

Upon graduating from Karachi University, he participated well for Balochistan Assembly on PML(N)'s conservative platform in the general elections held in 1990.[2] During this time, he worked on introducing the local government in Balochistan.[2] In 1997, he was eventually approved for running for Senator and became Senator from Balochistan which he reimained until 1999. Zehri ran for PB-50 (Khuzdar-I) constituency on National Party's platform during the general election held in 2002. He served as the provincial minister of prisons and tribal affairs until 2003.[4]

In 2010, he joined the Pakistan Muslim League (N), along with retired army general Abdul Qadir Baloch.[5][6] In August 2011, Baloch was selected by PML(N) as the assistant secretaries-general of the PML-N for Balochistan.[5][7]

In 2013, Zehri defended his constituency on PML(N)'s platform and was initially named as candidacy for Chief Minister of Balochistan.[8] However, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif instead approved the appointment of Abdul Malik Baloch to be elevated as the Chief Minister of Balochistan.[8]

On 7 June 2013, Zehri was appointed as Senior Minister of baluchistan— an equivalent to that of White House Chief of Staff in the United States.[1]
