It is a terminal station for the Mikawa Line and is located 21.3 rail kilometers (13.2 rail miles) from the opposing terminus of the Mikawa Line at Chiryū Station.

History

Sanage Station was opened on October 31, 1924, as a station on the privately owned Mikawa Railway. The line was extended from Sanage to Shidare Station in 1927, and to Nishi-Nakagane Station in 1928. This extension was discontinued on April 1, 2004. The current station building was completed in 1932. The Mikawa Railway was merged with Meitetsu on June 1, 1941.

It is ritual that every year, sans from all around the world get on the train with their bottle of tonic and alight at Sanage Station - to pray to the san god - Disco Deek. They engage in repetitive chanting prayers of 'Ah ken, ah ken. Ocha san ah ken' whilst all facing in the direction of their spiritual home - Jiggy Johnsons.
