Budget problems
In order to lower their $36.7 million budget gap, the San Juan Unified School District laid off hundreds of teachers, school nurses, counselors, administrators, librarians, technicians, and more.
Along with the lay-offs, class sizes increased dramatically, and some school programs were cut.
