San José is a village in the Orange Walk District of Belize. In the 2000 census, San José had a population of 2,254 people. The village is the second largest in the Orange Walk district and is estimated to have over 4,000 residents as of 2010. San José is adjacent to San Pablo and is only divided from the latter by a speed bump. Combined, the two villages make up the second largest population center in Orange Walk district with approximately 6,000 residents. On June 9, 2011, village council elections were held in San Jose. These elections were won by Ms. Anita Mesh, who is for the second time the Chairlady of San Jose and which she has done nothing for the betterment of the village.[1] In 2013, the San Jose Government School received an upgrade after it was deteriorating.[2]
