Jung San (born on January 23, 1985), more commonly known by his stage name San E, is a South Korean hip hop rapper under Brand New Music.[2] He was previously contracted under JYP Entertainment (JYP) in September 2010 and terminated his contract with them in April 2013.[3]

Biography

San E was born on January 23, 1985 in South Korea. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, USA, when he was a middle school student.[4][5] He attended the University of Georgia (UGA).[6]

Career

2010 : Debut

San E won "Best Hip Hop Song" at the 2010 Korean Music Awards for the track "Rap Genius." Soon after he signed with JYP Entertainment.[5] He was the first hip hop solo rapper to join the label.[7] On September 6, 2010 JYP released a teaser of San E.[8] On September 10 San E released a tracklist of his 1st Mini Album entitled Everybody ready?. There are various JYP artists who are featured in the album, including 2PM's Jun. K, Min (of Miss A), Joo and Yenny (of Wonder Girls). On September 16 he debuted on M! Countdown with his debut single 'Tasty San', featuring Min.[9] On November 2, San E started another round of promotions with a music video starring Sohee (of Wonder Girls), for a track named "LoveSick."[10] He also took part in JYP Nation's music video "This Christmas".[11]

2011 : Charity Song, Comeback

On April 6, 2011 he collaborated with Nuol, Verbal Jint, L.E.O, Dead P, Beenzino, Swings, Baby Bu, Dawn and designer Brownbreath for project "Stand Up, Japan!". All profits made from the digital single were donated to aid in Japan’s relief efforts after the Tohoku Tsunami.[12]

On April 26, rapper San-E released his new comeback song, “Please Don’t Go." This track was a collaborative effort with rapper Outsider and Lee Changmin (of 2AM).[13] On November 23 he released a new single called, "I Want You To Be Unhappy."[14]

2013 : Leaving JYP

In late April, San E ended his contract with JYP. In early August, he released the song "Story of Someone I Know" with a music video starring Nara (of Hello Venus). The song was San E's first top ten placing song on the Gaon Chart.[15][16]

2014 : Comeback, A Midsummer Night's Sweetness

On June 10, 2014 San E released his new single A Midsummer Night's Sweetness with After School's Raina. The song was an instant success and achieved #1 on multiple music charts.[17]
