San Domenico School is a pre-K-12 independent school in San Anselmo, California.
The primary and middle school consist of coeducational day students while the high school is coeducational day and boarding students.
Background
Founded in 1850, San Domenico is the oldest independent school in California. Situated on 500 acres (2.0 km2) in Marin County, San Domenico is a Catholic school operated by the Dominican Order, although it welcomes students of all faiths and cultural backgrounds.
San Domenico has some 500 students. The pre-K through 12 program is a day school, while the high school is both a day school and a boarding school.
San Domenico is the recipient of the National Association of Independent Schools' 2007 "Leading Edge" award for sustainability. In 2008 the school's Garden of Hope was registered as a Bay-Friendly School Garden by StopWaste.Org, the Alameda County Waste Management Authority which promotes waste reduction.
