San Diego Stingrays
The San Diego Stingrays were a charter member of International Basketball League (IBL) and played at the San Diego Sports Arena. The following season, the team returned to San Diego under the name, San Diego Wildfire, along with new ownership and management.
The Stingrays' most prominent player, for the first 13 games, was Percy Miller AKA rapper Master P. After 13 games, head coach Smokey Gaines was replaced by former NBA star Jeff Malone, and as a condition of taking the job Malone insisted on the team cutting ties with Percy Miller.
The San Diego Stingrays had a dance team as well that participated in several community events. They were led by director Demilo Young and Sheila Christensen.
