The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) is the municipal law enforcement agency of the city of San Antonio in the U.S. state of Texas. It is headquartered in Downtown San Antonio at 315 South Santa Rosa Street.
The department can trace its beginnings to 1846 when the first City Marshal was appointed.[1] The city had its laws enforced only by Texas Rangers and the City Marshals until the police force became modernized in 1875 when they were issued uniforms. Today, SAPD has over 2,100 sworn officers.
SWAT Team
In 2004, the SWAT unit of the San Antonio Police Department took first place in the general competition at the World SWAT Challenge held in Moyock, North Carolina, overtaking some of the best SWAT teams from around the world.
In 2010, the SWAT unit took the title of Best SWAT team in America, and won 2nd place internationally behind the Canadian team.
