Samiya Mumtaz (Urdu: سمیعہ ممتاز) (born 1970, Karachi), is a Pakistani film and television actress. She has performed in several TV dramas.[1]

Personal life

She is married and has two children. Her father is the architect, Kamil Khan Mumtaz.[2] She is also the grandniece of veteran actresses Uzra Butt and Zohra Sehgal.[1]

Career

She first appeared in Shahid Nadeem's directed drama serial "Zard Dopehar" (The Yellow Noon) aired on PTV in 1995. She is also notable for her recent performance in drama serials like Yariyan and Maaye Ni. She also started off as a theater personality and then moved to television. She is praised for her lead role in Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan, which is claimed to be the most successful drama serial.

Mumtaz made her film debut with a family drama film Moor directed by Jami, which is set for a 2014 release. In 2014 she also starred in a drama thriller film Dukhtar which will be released on August 14, 2014, Afia Nathaniel wrote and directed the film.[3] She won the award for 'Best Actor in a Negative Role' and 'Most Impactful Character' in the 3rd Servis HUM Awards held on 9 April 2015 in Dubai World Trade Centre.
