Sambavarvadakarai is a Panchayat town (Peerooratchi) in Tirunelveli district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

In the 2001 India census,^[1] Sambavar Vadagarai had a population of 14,647. Males constituted 49% of the population and females 51%. Sambavar Vadagarai had an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 65%, and female literacy was 44%. In 2001 in Sambavar Vadagarai, 12% of the population was under 6 years of age.

By the 2011 census, the town had grown to 17,284 inhabitants.^[2]

History, culture and tourism

Sambavar Vadakarai was part of Kingdom of Travancore before 1956. This Village surrounded by good scenic beauties. There are two parts of village. 1. Melur,2.Keelur. There are Two important big temples in Keelur part. One is Sri Ramasamy koil and another one is Sri Iyappan koil. Both the temples are old and renovated at the cost crores. The Iyappankoil is Built in the style of original Sabarimalai Temple.The temple is bulit by the single man V.S.Rajasekaran with the help of more Donors. One of the old Shiva temple build by Pandian kings is the main attraction of this village, the god name of this temple is Sri Moolanatha Swamy and Maduravani Ambal,One Government Higher secondary school and 3 Government Primary Schools
and Two CSI Churches are there in this village. The Loving Hands India Trust is running Orphanage Home at Sambavar Vadakarai under the name and style of “Zion Bethel Home”.

சாம்பவ முனிவரும் அகத்திய முனிவரும்,வடக்கு பக்கம் தெற்கு பக்கம் என எதிர் எதிரே உட்கார்ந்து தவம் இருக்க,தவத்திற்கு தண்ணீர் தேவைப்பட்டது.இரு முனிவர்களும் இறைவனை வேண்டினர்.இறைவன் ஹனுமனை நீர் கொண்டுவரப் பணித்தார்.ஹனுமனும் தன் வாலால் நீரை பொதிகை மலை அடிவாரத்திலிருந்து இழுத்து வந்தான். முனிவர்கள் முழுத் தவத்திலிருந்தனர். ஹனுமனுக்கு இழுத்து வந்த ஆற்று நீரை எங்கு நிறுத்துவது என தயங்கினான். வேறு வழியின்றி இரு முனிவர்களுக்கும் இடையில் நீரை இழுத்துச் சென்றான். சாம்பவர் ஆற்றின் வட கரையில் அமர்ந்து விட,அகஸ்தியர் தென் கரையில் அமர்ந்து விட, எங்கள் ஊர்,சாம்பவர் வட கரை என்று ஆனது.சாட்சியாய்,தென் கரையில் அகஸ்தியர் கோயில் இருக்க, ஊருக்கும் கோயிலுக்கும் நடுவே இன்றும் ஹனுமன் நதி செல்கிறது...
