Sam Page is an American physician and politician serving his third term in the Missouri House of Representatives. On June 5, 2007, Page announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Missouri from his hometown of Van Buren, Missouri.
Political career
Page was first elected to the Creve Coeur City Council in 1999, and re-elected in 2001. In 2002, he was elected to the first of three terms in the Missouri House of Representatives, where he served on the following committees:
- Joint Committee on Administrative Rules
- Special Committee on Healthcare Facilities
- Special Committee on Health Insurance
- Special Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing
- Interim Committee on Veterans Services
Gov. Bob Holden appointed him to the Missouri RX board in 2002 to help improve affordability of prescription medicines for seniors.
As a state representative, he sponsored the following legislation:
- Human Voice Contact Act to give callers to any state agency the option to talk to a human, not a machine (passed)
- Redefine variable annuities as securities to make it easier for seniors ripped off by fraudulent variable annuity sales to receive restitution (sponsored 2005, 2006, 2007)
- Make HPV vaccinations available to underinsured or uninsured women (sponsored 2007)
- Prohibit anyone convicted of a sex crime from living in a building on the campus of a public university (sponsored 2007)
- Require assisted living facilities to review and update physician orders from residents returning from a hospital or skilled nursing facility (passed)
On June 5, 2007, he announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Missouri. After a close race, his opponent Peter Kinder was re-elected on November 4, 2008.
In 2009, Dr. Page announced his candidacy for the Missouri State Senate in the 24th District. He is running to replace State Senator Joan Bray, who is unable to run for re-election in 2010 because of term limits. The Democratic Primary, where he will face off against Barbara Fraser and Helen Steele-Burton, will take place on August 3, 2010. Dr. Page ultimately lost this primary race.
In 2014, St. Louis County Councilwoman, Kathleen Kelly Burkett died midterm. Dr. Page was nominated to be the Democratic Nominee to fulfill her term in a special election to be held on August 5, 2014.
