Salvadora is a genus of tree or shrub in the plant family Salvadoraceae. Some of the species are Salvadora australis, Salvadora oleiodes,Salvadora persica and Salvadora angustifolia.
Description
It grows as small tree up to 7 metres high, but its branches commonly hang down to the ground, making it look more like a shrub than a tree. Salvadora angustifolia is native of Madagascar, it grows in tidal and salty areas and therefore is often considered as a mangrove tree.
Distribution and habitat
Some Salvadora are native to the hottest, driest areas of the Middle East.
Salvadora angustifolia is native of Madagascar[1] and occurs in Anjajavy Forest.
Taxonomy
It was named by Laurent Garcin in honour of Spanish botanist Jaime Salvador y Pedrol, and not, as often stated, for his father Juan Salvador de Bosca.
