Salvador Rodríguez

Salvador Rodrígez (1688 - unknown) was a Spanish politician that served as mayor of San Antonio, Texas in 1785 and 1796, and as regidor in this city. His family arrived in San Antonio from the Canary Islands, Spain, in 1731 with other Canarian families to bring order and populate this frontier region.

Biography

Juan Ignacio Lorenzo de Armas was born about 1688 in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. His parents were Francisco Rodriguez and Isabel de los Reyes. In Canary, he was a cheese maker,[1] but in 1730 he and his family emigrated to San Antonio, where they arrived in 1731 with others Canarian families in order populate this region, when he was 42 years old. [2] In 1785 and 1796 he was appointed mayor of San Antonio, replacing to mayors Francisco Javier Rodríguez and Ramón de las Fuentes respectively.[3] He also was regidor of San Antonio. He also married the Canarian Maria Perez Cabrera, with whom he had several children.[1]
