Sakanaction (stylized as sakanaction) is Japanese rock group Sakanaction's self-titled sixth album and was released on March 13, 2013. It includes the songs Boku to Hana, Yoru no Odoriko, Music, and a different version of B-side Eiga from the singles released before the album. 10 new tracks were created for the album.[2]

The album achieved 1st place on the Oricon weekly charts in its initial week of sales, the band's first record to do so in 6 years since their debut.[3]

Information

The album was released in three different versions. The limited editions included a 15th bonus track on the CD and came in two versions. One was coupled with a Blu-ray Disc and the other was coupled with a DVD. On the limited edition DVD is a collection of live performance videos and mini-documentaries, titled "sakanacalendar 2012". The limited edition Blu-ray Disc contains "sakanacalendar 2012" as well as the music videos for "Boku to Hana", "Yoru no Odoriko" and "Music".[4] The regular edition only includes a 14-track CD.

The album had a number of commercial tie-ups which increased its exposure to mass audiences. Both "Boku to Hana" and "Music" were used as primetime television drama theme songs, for 37sai de Isha ni Natta Boku ~Kenshui Junjou Monogatari~ and dinner respectively. "Yoru no Odoriko" was used in Mode School commercials and station ID for Space Shower TV. Album track "Aoi" was used as the theme song for 2013 soccer broadcasts on NHK.[5]

On March 8, five days before the release, all tracks were revealed for the first time to fans via an event titled Sakanaction x MUSICA Annual Project 6th Album "sakanaction" Pre-release Explosive Listening Party at Tokyo Liquidroom Ebisu.[6] The event was similar to the one held for Documentaly and also live-broadcast through Ustream. It was announced during the event that a promotional music video for album track "Inori" was to be created.

As promotion for the album, Sakanaction appeared on several popular television shows such as Waratte Iitomo! and SMAP×SMAP. They also performed "Aoi" on Count Down TV. The album became a big success, grabbing the top spot on Oricon Weekly Charts. The album's sales were certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of Japan.[7] It was also a success digitally as it took 1st place on iTunes Japan's Top Album Chart, Mora Walkman Official Music Store Album Ranking, and Amazon Japan MP3 Albums for that week.[8]

Track list

All tracks were written and composed by vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi except instrumental tracks 2 and 13 which were composed by the entire band and arranged together with musician Takamasa Aoki. Track 15 was remixed by bassist Ami Kusakari.
