Sakado (坂戸市 Sakado-shi) is a city located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Sakado was formerly a town who elevated to city status on September 1, 1976.

As of July 1, 2009, the city has an estimated population of 100,942, with 41,669 households and a population density of 2,464 persons per km². The total area is 40.97 km².

The city is served by three railway stations on the Tōbu Tōjō Line from Ikebukuro: Wakaba, Sakado, and Kita-Sakado, and also Nishi-Ōya Station on the Tōbu Ogose Line.

Events and attractions

An annual Yosakoi festival has been held in Sakado in August since 2001.[1]

Xien Ten Gong, the largest Taoist temple in Japan, is located in Sakado.[2]

City mascot

The city mascot "Sakacchi" (さかっち) was created in 2006 to mark the 30th anniversary of Sakado gaining city status.[3]
