Personal life

Nadiadwala married late actress Divya Bharti on 10 May 1992. After being falsely linked to a variety of Bollywood and Telugu actors and other personalities within the film industry, Bharti decided to get married to film producer Sajid Nadiadwala on 10 May 1992, after she had just turned 18.They had met at Film City, when Sajid dropped by the sets to Meet his friend Govinda. Divya was shooting with Govinda on the sets of Shola Aur Shabnam. It was Govinda who introduced Sajid to Divya. Soon, it became a routine for the unit to see Sajid on sets every day.It was love at first sight.they were deeply in love. The marriage was kept a secret for a couple of weeks in order to avoid lessening potential film offers for Bharti as well as soothing intra-familial conflicts regarding the different religions and familiar backgrounds Bharti and Nadiadwala belonged to. Bharti changed her name to Sanah Nadiadwala, while still working under the name Divya Bharti.[8]

As Sajid quotes in Movie June, 1993 issue "Somewhere around January 15, 1992 Divya told me that she wanted to get married. The very next day she was tense because her name was being linked with all heroes. She wanted to marry and put an end to all these controversies. People expect me to have a relationship with everyone, she would complain.

Then on May 10, 1992, Divya got married to Sajid in the presence of her hairdresser Sandhya, the hairdresser's husband and a kazi at Tulsi apartments, Sajid's Versova residence. Divyas mother had said "The moulvi had been brought over to Sajids home and they performed the nikah ceremony (islamic marriage system) and signed the register". Divya's mother had been asked to attend as a witness by Divya but had refused to go as Divya's father didn't know about the marriage.Divya converted to Islam and took on a new name Sanah. As Sajid quotes "We kept the marriage a secret because her career was at stake. Her producers would have panicked. In retrospect, i wish we had told the truth. Divya wanted to announce that we were married but i kept telling her to wait for a while. I wish i hadn't. Every time she saw the rushes of her films, she would sigh, This will flop and people will ask me to quit". But that never happened, her films were hits. By the end of 1993, she would have completed all her assignments.Nadidwala was in deep shock at bharti's sudden tragic demise.[9]

In an interview Producer Sajid Nadiadwala's wife Warda said for a woman, living in the shadow of her husband's late wife isn't easy but she is doing it with grace. Warda Nadiadwala, wife of producer Sajid Nadiadwala carefully maintains his precious memories of his late wife Divya Bharati - outdated shampoo bottles and mousse, letters written in blood, and some other personal belongings. Warda is not envious of anything, not even the fact that even today, Sajid carries a photograph of Divya Bharati in his wallet. "Heard Bryan Adams' song All for love?" she asks, with a smile. "Divya was a part of Sajid's life before I met him. In fact, she was the reason for our meeting." Warda was a journalist who'd gone to meet Sajid on Divya's first death anniversary in 1994. "I fell in love and carried on my feelings (after Divya's passing, Sajid was seeing Tabu) till I married him one day. And Sajid clearly told me that Divya will always be a part of him.[10] [11]

Sajid Nadiadwala has paid 1.5 crores for divya bharti's song saat samundar to be used in his movie kick. In a memorable tribute, it has Salman Khan dancing and lip-synching to the hit Viju Shah composition ‘Saat samundar paar mein tere peeche-peeche aa gayee’. The song is from Rajiv Rai’s Vishwatma was filmed on Divya Bharti. It was her acting debut. Sajid later commented “I wanted that song ‘Saat samundar’ in ‘Kick’. There are many loving memories of my beloved late wife attached to it. The song makes ‘Kick’ all the more special.[12] Bharti died on 5 April the following year and Nadiadwala remained unmarried until he subsequently married former journalist Warda Khan in 2004.He has two sons with her, Subhan and Sufyan.
