Saida Iskandarova (Uzbek: Саида Искандарова; born March 12, 1980 in Tashkent) is a retired Uzbekistani swimmer who specialized in backstroke, but also competed in sprint freestyle.[1] She is a two-time Olympian (2000 and 2004), and currently, a head coach for the Uzbekistan National Swimming Team.[2][3]

In 1995 at the Ist Central Asian Games Saida Iskandarova showed the power of her athletic abilities, where she won 2 gold and 1 bronze medal.

In 1998, at the XIII Asian Games in Bangkok, won a silver medal.

Iskandarova made her official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She was the first uzbek girl, who participated in the Olympics, where she competed in the women's 50 m freestyle. Swimming in heat four, she picked up a sixth seed and fifty-fifth overall by 0.23 of a second behind Moldova's Maria Tregubova in 27.75.[4]

In 2002, at the championship of Asia and the Pacific (Hong Kong) she won 3 gold medals for 3 distances (50, 100, 200 m backstroke). In the same year she won the title of "Best Athlete of the Year" in Uzbekistan.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Iskandarova qualified for the 200 m backstroke by clearing a FINA B-standard entry time of 2:19.98 from the Belarus Open Championships in Minsk.[5] She participated in the first heat, against two other swimmers Gretchen Gotay of Puerto Rico, and Sherry Tsai of Hong Kong, who carried the nation's flag in the opening ceremony. She rounded out a small field of three to last place by a 6.24-second margin behind winner Tsai, outside her entry time of 2:26.17. Iskandarova failed to advance into the semifinals, as she placed thirty-second overall in the preliminaries.[6][7]
