Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal (Urdu: ساہیوال میڈیکل کالج ساہیوال ), established in 2010, is a public school of Medicine located in Sahiwal, Punjab, Pakistan.It is established on the initiative of CM Shehbaz Sharif to give quality education in the region Punjab and especially in Sahiwal District. Headquarters Hospital(438 beds), Haji Abdul Qayyum Hospital (72 beds) and Ghalla Mandi Mini Hospital Sahiwal are attached to the college as the teaching hospitals. The student intake is 100 students per year.[1]

Inauguration

Sahiwal is an old district of Punjab, having a rich agriculture- based economy and is famous for its educational institutions. Feeling the utmost need of a medical college in the area, on 27 November 2010, Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of Sahiwal Medical College. The Government has allotted 70 acres near Central Jail Sahiwal for the College, where the campus was completed at the cost of Rs. 1 billion in 2014 and the college shifted to its new building.[2][3]

Recognition

The medical college is listed in the International Medical College Education Directory (IMED). [4]In Nov 2013, PMDC cancelled the recognition of Sahiwal Medical College and ordered them to stop admissions in the college.[5][6]
