Sahatwar is a Rajput town and nagar panchayat in Ballia district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was originally known as Mahatpal.

Demographics

Based on the 2001 Indian census, Sahatwar has a population of 18,972. Men constitute 52% of the population and women 48%. Sahatwar has an average literacy rate of 51% (lower than the national average of 59.5%) with male literacy at 61% and female literacy at 41%. 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Temples

The Mahatpaleswar Nath temple (Old Shiva temple) is in the heart of the city. The town is also surrounded by a number of other temples, including Palat Baba to the east, Thakur Ji (Baulli) to the west, Sri Chainram Baba to the north, and Janki Brahma Baba temple to the south.

Economy

Sahatwar is a trade center for around a hundred nearby small villages, including Dumariya, Khanpur, Haldi, Parsha,Harpur, Bani ke Bari (Purab Tola), Datuali, Baburani, and Kopadhi. It is well linked to surrounding areas by both rail and roads.
