Sage Hill School is a independent co-educational college preparatory school for day students in grades 9-12. Sage Hill is situated on a 30-acre campus with academic buildings, library, gymnasium, 30,000 square foot arts facility, football/soccer field, baseball field, outdoor basketball field, and a sand volleyball court. According to its 2000 regular school Affidavit filed with the state of California, it opened in September 2000 with 35 Sophomores and 115 Freshmen. Today the school has grown to over 475 students in grades 9-12. According to the 2006 School affidavit, the Freshman class for the 2006-07 school year has 121 students, less than the 122 Freshmen in 2002 and less than the largest Freshman class of 126 in 2005. Sage Hill School was built on approximately 30 acres (120,000 m2) of land. According to a Los Angeles Times article dated January 28, 1999, the land is an agricultural preserve that was obtained in a 99-year ground lease from the Irvine Company. The school has the option to buy the land during the lease period. The construction costs were in the tens of millions of dollars. In 2008, the school broke ground on a new building for the Arts, the Studio at Sage Hill. The Studio supports the school's public purpose mission and serves as a forum for both creation and display. The building was completed in August, 2009. It contains a 300-seat fully flexible black box theater and houses two new departments- Film and Ceramics, along with Visual Arts, Theater, Dance and Choral and Instrumental Music. In the summer of 2011, the school replaced the Peter Ueberroth gymnasium floor. In April 2012, the school constructed dugouts for the newly dedicated Hague Field. In summer 2013, construction began on a new Science Center, and was completed in the fall of 2014.
