Safeway Goya was lead singer of The Nobodys, a new wave band from Los Angeles, California, not to be confused with the punk band of the same name, The Nobodys, from Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Nobodys released an album on Capitol Records and EMI International August 8, 1984. The album as well as the first single from it are both titled "No Guarantees". Goya produced the album and wrote the songs with guitarist & keyboardist Alex Blanc. The group's video, shot in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Los Angeles, aired on MTV that year. The single, "No Guarantees," was used in Michael Apted's movie Firstborn, starring Peter Weller & Teri Garr (1984),[2] and in episode 27, "Buddies," of the television series Miami Vice.

Stage name

Alex Blanc & Safeway Goya were in fact brothers. The pen name "Safeway Goya" was taken from the Safeway grocery store and the famous Spanish painter, Francisco Goya to reflect both his American and Spanish sides. Prior to their taking those stage names they were Alex and Fred de Rafols. The brothers are of Spanish descent.
