Safed-Posh Kaffirs

Sfed-Posh (White-Robed) or Lal-Posh (Red-Robed) Kafirs were designations for usually three clans, namely:

  1. Wais or Waigulis
  2. Askunus or Ashkuns
  3. Presungulis, Vasi or Viron people

It is assumed that the Vasi (Prasunguli) Kafirs were the originally inhabitants of Kafiristan (present Nuristan). The Ashukuns are probably allied to the Waigulis.[1]

These appellations were based on the traditional colors of their raiments. Some authors, such as George Scott Robertson, consider this classification inconvenient and unscientific, and keep these three groups separate on the same level as the Siah-Posh Kafirs.
