The SaCaSol I is a 22-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power plant, owned by San Carlos Solar Energy Inc., and located in San CarlosNegros Occidental. It is currently the largest operational solar plant in the Philippines and to be expanded to 45 MW with two more phases, "SaCaSol I C" and "SaCaSol I D".[1][2][3]
The first phase, the 13 MWp SaCaSol I A, was inaugurated by the country's President, Benigno S. Aquino III, on May 15, 2014. The second phase, the 9 MWp SaCaSol I B, is operational since July 2014.[4][5] The third and fourth phase, SaCaSol I C and SaCaSol I D, will add another 23 MW of capacity. The 23-megawatt expansion is developed by Bronzeoak Philippines and projected to cost $48.3 million (or $2.20 per watt).[6]
According to the president of San Carlos Solar Energy (SaCaSol), Sech Zabaleta, the expansion of the SaCaSol I solar park is currently underway in San Carlos, scheduled to bring the total capacity to 45 MW by the end of 2015. In addition, the 32 MW SaCaSol II and the 33 MW SaCaSol III solar power plants are also under construction in Negros.[7]
