Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh Ltd. (SRBD) is one of the 33 global Research & Development centers and 6 Design centers [1] of Samsung Electronics located in Panthapath, Dhaka. It is considered as first R&D settlement of a multinational corporation in Bangladesh. It's operation started in June, 2010 as Samsung Bangladesh R&D Center (SBRC) in Gulshan, Dhaka and was officially inaugurated with full strength in February 2011. [2] Later, in January 2013, as part of naming standardization of all global R&D centers, it was renamed to Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh Ltd. Samsung breaks R&D into three organizations: business unit development teams that have a 1 to 2 year development outlook; research institutes that have a 3 to 5 year development outlook and focuses on technology that is expected to deliver the most promising long-term results; and the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, which works on projects with a further line of sight and identifies growth engines for the future. SRBD develops software and firmware for mobile devices marketed in Asia, Africa, Europe, Middle East and Australia, both for smart phone and regular feature phones. It also focuses on advanced technologies and conducts other advanced system researches on Digital Imaging, Image Processing, Visual Display, Wireless Networking and System Engineering. [3]

Company Information

SRBD started off with more than a hundred intellects in February, 2011 with a plan to expand it's workforce into a thousand engineers by 2013. [4] Though, when the workforce reached around six hundred it stopped growing. Rather it has observed much workplace deviance and bad management causing massive forced resignations and terminations. [5] According to management policy, SRBD intends to use the immense potential of Bangladeshi IT industry and huge pool of talented engineers. This center has a synergy effect as the company trains the engineers and market it's products in the region. SRBD is committed to leading technology differentiation and securing intellectual property rights. [6]
