SM Energy Co. is an oil and gas exploration and production company with major operation in the North America. The business of the company mainly focuses on onshore North America, including South Texas and Gulf Coast Region, Rocky Mountain Region, Mid-Continent Region, ArkLaTex Region and Permian Region.[4]

In December 2011, the Company closed on its acquisition and development agreement with Mitsui E&P Texas LP (Mitsui), an indirect subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. Ltd., which transferred 12.5% of its working interest in certain non-operated oil and gas assets in South Texas. [8]
In December 2013, SM Energy Co announced that it had closed its previously announced Anadarko Basin divestiture package with receiving total proceeds of approximately $329 million, which will provide additional liquidity to fund the Company’s 2014 capital program.[9]
