History
The mall complex was designed by Palafox and Associates with D.A. Abcede & Associates as consultants and Young Builders Corporation as contractor. Built on the same design template of SM City Fairview and SM City Bacoor at the height of Asian Financial Crisis, its interior and external facade has resemblance to the two other malls. SM City Iloilo was opened to the public on June 11, 1999.[1] The mall features main anchors like SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, SM Cinemas and SM Foodcourt. The mall underwent a major renovation in the 2nd quarter of 2008 and was completed in the 1st quarter of 2009. TeleTech Customer Care Management Philippines Inc., a BPO company occupies the entire 3rd level of the mall.
In 2009, an annex (The SouthPoint) with a floor area of 4,218 m2 (45,400 sq ft), adjacent to the main mall building was built to house some food-based tenants.
Mall Expansion
SM will focus on the expansion of SM City Iloilo to boost retail space and to compete with the other upcoming malls in Mandurriao, Iloilo City like The Shops @ Atria by Ayala Malls, Gaisano Capital Iloilo City Center and the Megaworld Central Mall by Megaworld Lifestyle Malls. The expansion will have a gross floor area of 35,330sqm and it will be the largest mall in Western Visayas with a total GFA of 185,792sqm. [2][3]
