SMC Networks designs, develops and manufactures customer-premises equipment such as gateways, routers, modems and home security, automation, and monitoring (SMA) products for residential and business customers.

SMC was purchased by Accton Technology Corporation in 1997. Accton is an outsourcing partner for networking and communications products.

In 2001, SMC began to focus exclusively on servicing multi-service operators (MSOs) who offered voice, video, and data services to residential and business customers. In 2002, SMC hired Todd Babic to lead sales and business development. Over the next 8 years, Babic and his team grew revenues by an average of 200% per year. In May 2010, Babic was promoted to President, North America for SMC.

Today, SMC serviced 12 of the top 14 multi-service operators (MSOs) in North America. The company's headquarters are located in Irvine, California in the United States and in Vancouver, BC, Canada. SMC has R&D centers in Denver, Austin, Massachusetts, China, Taiwan, India, and Israel and maintains offices in Irvine, Vancouver, Denver, Chicago, and Charlotte. Globally, SMC maintains a presence through regional offices located in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Japan.

SMC invested in research and development using technologies such as DOCSIS 3.0, Ethernet over DOCSIS, PRI over DOCSIS, plastic optical fiber, MOCA, home PNA, DLNA, UPnP, and Packet Cable 2.0. SMC currently have over 3 million products in service in North America.
