SCR is a chicken rice fast-food restaurant and Halal family restaurant chain in Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak. The chain is operated by SCR Corporation Sdn Bhd, a company incorporated in Malaysia, which was established in 1987. Since its birth in 1987, SCR Corporation Sdn. Bhd. has grown to become one of East Malaysia’s biggest home grown food names. Operations started out with only a 1,200 sq. feet air-conditioned lot in Jalan Song Thian Cheok. Over the years, the company now boasts a total of 30 outlets to date.[1]
Originally named Singapore Chicken Rice, it has rebranded itself into SCR and with introduction of SCR Xpress, which was introduced in early 2007 as another restaurant chains with a distinct blend of the old and new menu. SCR is set to expand it branches regionally through franchising efforts.[2]
Locations
There are a total of 30 outlets throughout Sarawak. Among the main locations are in Kuching, Sibu and Miri. It has also open pioneer branches in Bintulu, Limbang,[3] and Sarikei.
Menu
SCR speciality is its chicken rice with a choice of either steamed or fried chicken. One can choose to have drumstick or normal parts, or quarter/half chicken served separately, with some price difference. There are also rice meals such as Chicken Fillet Rice, Black Pepper Chicken Rice, Ginger Chicken Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice, Spicy Sambal Chicken Rice, Baby Kailan Seafood Rice, Mixed Vegetable Rice, Roasted Black Pepper Chicken Rice and Fried Rice with price range from RM5 to RM9 each.
There are also noodle meals such as Cantonese Kueh Teow/Mee/Bee Hoon (served with either seafood or fried chicken bites), Tomato Kueh Teow/Mee/Bee Hoon, Fried Kueh Teow/Mee/Bee Hoon and Fried Mamak Mee.
Beginning early 2000s, SCR began to revamp the menu from limited range of Chinese cuisine to more Western and fusion cuisine. The western meals served are Chicken Chop with BBQ/Black Pepper Sauce, Lamb Chop with BBQ/Black Pepper Sauce, Fish & Chips, Double Decker Sandwich with French Fries, Sandwich (Chicken/Egg/Cheese), French Fries Mayonnaise, Baby Kailan in Oyster Sauce, Beancurd in Oyster Sauce, Bean Sprout with Salted Fish, Taiwanese Cabbage with Oyster Sauce, Baby Kailan with Seafood, Mixed Vegetables, Chicken Meat Roll, Deep Fried Wanton, Thai Style Golden Beancurd, Black Pepper Chicken/Fish, Ginger Chicken/Fish, Sweet & Sour Chicken/Fish, Spicy Sambal Chicken, Fried Egg and Chicken Liver/ Gizzard.
