SBI Group (Strategic Business Innovator Group) (TYO: 8473) is a financial services company group based in Japan. The group's businesses and companies are held primarily at SBI Holdings, the group also operates a business school and children's charity foundation as well. The company is based in Tokyo.[1]

SBI Group began in 1999 as the primary investment and financial services arm of SoftBank, the Japanese media and telecommunications company. SoftBank Investment, as it was then called, established several prized investment funds targeting Internet business, capturing Silicon Valley's meteoric growth and placing SBI as one of the most winning technology investors. Some of these successful investments include Yahoo! and E*TRADE. More recently, SBI has found success in other markets, such as China, where it "seeded" the New Horizon Fund I, one of the most successful funds targeting China. Expanding since then, SBI is listed on the first section of the Osaka Securities Exchange and Tokyo Stock Exchange.[2]

The company has dozens of subsidiaries and associated companies, involved in every aspect of financial services, including credit cards, insurance, investments, venture capital, science incubation, auto loans and banking.[3]

SBI Holdings has been listed in Hong Kong in form of Hong Kong Depositary Receipt (HDR) with stock code 6488 since April 2011.[4]

SBI Securities

On April 27, 2011 SBI securities, a unit of SBI Holdings, agreed to acquire a 25 percent stake in PT BNI Securities, a subsidiary company of Bank Negara Indonesia for Rp.114 billion ($16.70 million).[5]
