Søren Gyldendal

Søren Gyldendal (April 12, 1742 – February 8, 1802) was a Danish bookstore owner who in 1770 founded what was to become Denmark's largest publishing house, Gyldendal. Every year on his birthday, the Søren Gyldendal Foundation awards a prize in his name, the Søren Gyldendal Prize. Since 2009 the prize has been DKK 200,000. Every second year a fiction writer is awarded and every second year the prize goes to a non-fiction author.[1]
