São Tomé and Príncipe legislative election, 2010

A legislative election was held in São Tomé and Príncipe on 1 August 2010. It was first planned for 21 February, but was then postponed.[1][2][3]
The President of São Tomé and Príncipe, Fradique de Menezes, announced on 17 March 2010 that legislative election would be held on 1 August 2010.[4]
Results
According to preliminary results from 2 August 2010, the opposition Independent Democratic Action won a plurality of seats (26) of the 55 up for grabs. Prime Minister Joaquim Rafael Branco's MLSTP-PSD came second with 21 seats. Third was PCD, a member of the ruling coalition, with 7 seats. President Fradique de Menezes's MDFM-PL got only one seat. Turnout was reportedly very high at almost 88%.[5]
