Ruth Stewart (born 1916) is an American operatic soprano. In 1943 she entered Columbia University as a voice major. She won two Fulbright scholarships which enabled her to study with Maria Pediconi in Rome.[1] She sang in concerts and operas in Italy and Switzerland and made her professional opera debut with the New York City Opera as Mamaloi the Voodoo Priestess in the world premiere of William Grant Still's Troubled Island on March 31, 1949.[2] She also taught on the voice faculty of Texas Southern University from 1954 through 1983.
