Ruth Laskey is an American artist known for her Minimalist weavings[1] and grid paintings.[2]

Biography

Laskey was born in San Louis Obispo in 1975.[3] She graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1997 with a degree in Art History. She received a B.F.A. from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1999 and an M.F.A. from the California College of the Arts in 2005.[1]

As of 2015, Laskey lives in San Francisco.[4]


Work

Although Laskey has often been grouped with fiber artists[5] her real contibution has been to the discussion of painting.[6]

Laskey's weaving/paintings are created paistakingly, taking months to weave after first completing a planning stage of preliminary graph drawings.[7]

Awards and Honors

In 2010, Laskey won the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's SECA Art Award.[8]
