Running With Scissors, Inc. (RWS, Inc.) is an American video game developer based in Arizona. Their best-known title, Postal, was publicly decried by Senator Joe Lieberman and other critics due to its extreme violence.
RWS was founded in 1996 as a new company devoted to developing extreme and mature entertainment products. Some of the founding members were previously employed at another company run by Vince Desi, RSP(Riedel Software Productions), which was focused on developing children’s games.
In April 2003, RWS released a sequel, Postal², featuring ex-child actor Gary Coleman. The game features many jokes at Senator Lieberman's expense and also features an entire class of enemy modeled upon Osama bin Laden.
In December 2011, Postal III, a sequel to Postal² was released by Akella. The game, which was developed by TM Studios and co-produced by RWS, faced mostly negative reviews from the press,[1] which made the company withdraw the game from its own online store. Today, RWS treats the game like a spin-off, rather than a sequel.
In November of 2012 Postal 2 was released on Steam. It has brought new life into the title as RWS completely patched the game to include Steamworks and Achievements.
In June of 2014 RWS announced an addon for Postal 2 entitled Paradise Lost. As Postal 2 showed tremendous late life success on Steam, RWS decided to give the new found fans some DLC to keep the game fresh.
In November, 2014, RWS announced that the original Postal game has been remade under the name of Postal: Redux. It uses the Unreal Engine 4 and is set to be released in late 2015 for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, XBOX One and various mobile platforms
