Runbow is a platform racing video game for Nintendo Wii U set to be released in Q3 2015.[1]

Development

The game was first announced on October 24, 2014. 13AM Games confirmed that the game "is sorta like Mario Kart".[2] The game was also shown at the 2015 Game Developer's Conference, revealing the names of the game's characters, Hue and Val.[3]

On April 13, 2015, 13AM Games revealed several independent game characters that would guest-star in the Runbow roster: Shovel Knight from the eponymous Shovel Knight, Rusty from SteamWorld Dig, Juan and Tostada from Guacamelee!, Swift Thornebrooke from Sportsball, Scram Kitty from Scram Kitty and His Buddy on Rails, along with CommanderVideo and CommandgirlVideo from the Bit.Trip series.[4] The team also teased the addition of several more.

Gameplay

The gameplay style of Runbow is that of a multiplayer-focused platformer with party game elements. The player controls a character, and is tasked with traversing the changing landscape (which is triggered by the change in colored backgrounds), avoiding pitfalls and other hazards as the players must reach to the end to win the game.

The game will also support many features such as achievements, time trials, a special mode called "Master the Bowhemoth", and many more.

With its support of 9 players playing simultaneously, Runbow is the second Wii U game to feature more than 5 players playing simultaneously, with the first being Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which supported 8 players.[5]

There is also character customization, as well as other modes that are not racing-focused, such as "King of the Hill" and "Arena".[6]
