Rubus plicatus is a species of blackberry native to Europe.[2]
Taxonomy
The type specimen of the genus Rubus was selected from among Linnaeus's specimens by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Addison Brown in 1913 as a herbarium specimen labelled Rubus fruticosus. This specimen turned out to include a mixture of Rubus plicatus and Rubus ulmifolius, from which the Rubus plicatus component was selected to be the type.[3] The original type of Rubus plicatus, however, is a different specimen. The name Rubus fruticosus has been used by many authors as a nomen ambiguum and applied to the entire subgenus Rubus.[4] Although, strictly speaking, the name Rubus fruticosus has priority, it is usually considered to be a synonym of the later name Rubus plicatus.[1]
