Royal Johor Military Force

The Royal Johor Military Force (Malay: Askar Timbalan Setia Negeri Johor; Jawi: عسكر تيمبالن ستيا نڬري جوهر) is an independent military formation raised in 1886 by Abu Bakar of Johor.[1] The military formation is a state army and is unique because it is the only state army and one of the oldest army in Malaysia.[1] It is under the control of the Sultan of Johor. Its headquarters are located at Bukit Timbalan, Johor Bahru, Johor.[1]

Today the force performs mainly ceremonial functions.[2] For example, the military formation's passing-out parade to mark the end of training for its 61 recruits was held in full tradition for the first time since 1947. It was held in July 2012.[1]
