Kim Sang-woo (Hangul: 김상우, Hanja: 金相佑; born July 3, 1993), better known by his stage name Roy Kim (Hangul: 로이 킴), is a South Korean singer-songwriter and radio presenter. He was the winner of Mnet's talent competition series Superstar K4.[1]

Early life

Roy Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea on July 3, 1993. His mother was an artist, and his father, Kim Hong-taek, is a former professor at Hongik University.[2] During his elementary school years, he stayed awhile in Canada to study, later went to Asheville, North Carolina in the United States, and graduated from Asheville School.[3]

Taking a gap year from Georgetown University in 2012, Kim entered Mnet's Superstar K4 (the Korean equivalent of American Idol), which he was crowned the final winner of the show out of 2,083,447 applicants.

Since his first appearance on Superstar K4, Kim has sold more than 10 million digital singles in his native South Korea (with the sales of studio album tracks included).
